It is about the forum being down for about 15 minutes.

I was checking the database and found it to be corrupted. After using mysql database repair utilites I was unable to restart the forum. That was pretty scary.

I then tried to switch to a backup I made 2 days ago and was also unsuccessful. As a last resort I restarted the whole Linux server and that fixed the problem. I was so happy to see the forum up again. It was 2 days old - from the last backup on March 6.

I then copied the most recent database files back to original directory, restarted the server again and I got the up-to data forum running again. Feels good. Sometimes all it takes is a re-boot.

Also the frequent backups help too.

What have I done wrong? Never use the database utility while the mySQL server is still tunning. I knew it, but ignored it trying to save time, only shutting down the Apache, thinking that this would be enough since no database connections are being made and instead I had to stay up until 1 AM to fix my own mess.

This was the real-life support example. If you want to know more about Linux, mySQL and Apache, ask your questions here, I'll try to answer.
