| Ok maybe another dumb question..but here goes,
I`ve been trying to figure out how to print to a friends computer via the internet, now is that possible?...I know it works via NICs but through a modem?
Is this possible using his IP address as the path? and would you need to capture printer port at that IP address?
Man I feel dumb!...I`m thinking this is a lost cause.........
Thanks to anyone who can help Mike | |

| Yes, this is possible through IP printing. Windows NT/2K and Unix support it out of the box, while Win9X needs additional software. M$ has a patch that allows Win9x to be the client to Win2k. I'm not sure if this patch works with anything else hosting the printer. This is possible through a modem since to the upper layers, NICs and modems are the same.
You would print to an LPR que on the IP address of the PC acting as a server. If what I just said sounded like Greek, you should search for a white paper on IP printing. It's not complicated to implement, but it is complicated to explain.
Don't feel dumb about this, printing is a weak point for a lot of techs, including me. |
