Hi Guys:

I know that not many of you are from Canada, but I think this will touch everyone regardless of their geographic location.

Yesterday afternoon, in a tech school in Ottawa, which is only 30 minutes from the school I used to attend, an Instructor was stabbed to death in the hallway by an irate student.

My close friend attends that school, and her brother is an Instructor. I haven't heard from her yet, so I can only hope they are okay.

This really upsets me, because violence is breaking out everywhere - and no where is safe anymore. I had thought this was a fairly safe profession, but I guess I was wrong.

Oh God! What a world!

Yikes that is bad

What is the world coming to today???

It's nothing new . . . my brother was blown away back in '94 while at work.

Randy:

I am so sorry. I never knew.

I'm sorry to hear that Randy. You're right, it's nothing new. The media has just decided to hype it up more in the last few years then they use to. Violent crime rates are actually plumeting for the most part.

Yes, and that is certainly a good thing, but still when it occurs in the process of an instructor being killed it is something of a shock. Instructors often forego higher pay because they love what they do and love imparting knowlege to budding engineers. To have one gunned down for this is a sad thing indeed. There can be a lot of pressure in today's world on the student, but this in no way excuses irresponsible behaviour such as this.

Randy I'm sorry to hear that, it's a shame the way the world is today. God Bless

Thanks kjones, but you know the old saying, "excrementum accidit". That's how things are sometimes. But rather than letting it get me all down I try to remember two of Nietzsche's little aphorisms:

1) What does not kill me only makes me stronger
2) One who fights monsters should take care that in the process he does not become a monster.

It's done with, but violence is never far from any of us. Frightening but true.
