Question about win98 please help
| I have a really irritating thing that happens to my win 98 system. Up until about a month ago Everything on my machine was fine. Then I noticed when I would go and shut down or try and do a scan disk my machine would just freeze up. I reformatted and everything was fine again. a week later Boom it happens again. Since then I have had to do this process over and over. Does anybody have any clue what could be going on? | |

| Yes! Boy have I seen this one before. Windows 98 has a issue with fast shutdown. Go to Microsoft and look up Q187607 on tech net. It will give you the location of the Patch. If you are having a problem with scandisk and defrag odds are you are running Mcafee 4.5 if so then disable it before running those two programs.
Hope this helps

| Good call Wilbur. The Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement might even resolve the issue. I've applied it to none Second Edition systems with success.
It is available at http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUFe atured/Win98SE/Default.asp
