Author Why the certs?

2001-02-01, 2:08 am

I was wondering how many of you guys study just because you like to, not for work, not for money...
Let me put it this way: If you won the lottery tomorrow, and did not need the money from work, would you still study and take tests?
I personally would -- they don't call me freak for nothing I suppose -- because I find it so much fun. I guess I would not study as long hours, and try to get all the certs I can in a minimum amount of time, but I am sure I would go on studying and taking certs... you guys?

I would continue to study, but would stop taking exams. I'm obsessed with technology so I'd probably buy a lot of toys and learn about/play with them. Probably the only exception to this is the CCIE since that's really my main certification goal. I'd take all the labs

Looks Like Im wearing your other shoe Freak, Personaly, I just like to know as much as possible. Dont get me wrong, I do want a career in IT, But I mainly get those certs to prove to myself that I knew the material.

As is, I have my A+, and am writing for Net+ on monday. But I plan to have I-net, CIW, MCSE, CCNA, etc, etc.. All the way up to ACGWTMC!

btw, ACGWTMC = A Computer Geek With To Many Certifications

I study because I enjoy it. Technology, after a whole lot of soul searching, was the only thing that I knew of that got me excited at the mention of the word. I love it. I cannot get enough. I also study to make myself more rounded and not up one certain path. You can never know too much!!

Actually I would still study and still do the exams, someone once asked me why I was doing all these certifications and my answer was I won't stop till i have all 26 letters of the alphabet and all ten primary numbers after my name, and along the way I might even learn a few things aw well CCNA friday noon, I'm going to pass

I would still study because technology fascinates me. I am amazed at how far technology has brought us, and how far it is still going to take us.

If I won the lottery, I would of course take a short break from studying to go on a major trip, and have one heck of a party!!

Then, it would be back to the books.

I'm sorry guys, but if I won the lottery, then believe me, studying and exams would be in the bin immediately.... :0)

Study: yeah, but my study has never been limited to only one subject, I like to learn things. Exams: I doubt it.

It reminds me of that joke where this guy asks another one if he would stop working if he won the lottery. The other guy answers:" Of course I would stop working! I would be rich, not stupid "

I think I would keep going just to pass the long dark winter nights - and certs usually mean no heavy lifting. I think most people quite like the look of letters after their names. Not me

Win the lottery

No more studing or exams. Just reading...hmm.. sounds like studying.. oh well.

sorry lads,
but my main reason for getting a few certs is to get a bit of well needed dosh !!!!

But in the future, when I am comfortable with my money situation, I hope to start giving good advice to ppl that are just starting a carrer in IT. Maybe then, I'll start enjoying the study when I know it will be going to help someone else in their carrer as well as me !!!

Thats why I admire Freak !! ( The father of IT !! LOL )

If I won the lottery, I would continue to study out of sheer boredom. Besides, is there really such a thing as too much money???

2001-02-05, 6:20 pm

Study for tests....No. I like knowing what the product REALLY can do not the test information! If I won the lottery I would still setup networks and mess around with networks just so I could support my growing Soldier of Fortune multiplayer habit.
