Winnt 4.0 Question

| I had a user call in and on the PC upon Winnt loading; in the OS loader it stated
"NT Detect Failed" and froze @ that Error.
What does this mean? Has the HDD crashed or does the OS Winnt need to be loaded again in order for it to correct the files that are missing in order for it to complete its OS loader of Winnt?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys

| Check out TechNet article Q242112. Here's the link (hopefully you have an ERD you can use).

Basically the Ntdetect.com file is missing or damaged.
If the workstation is formatted NTFS, you have another possible option. If the system supports booting from the CD-Rom and if you have a Windows 2000 CD, you could boot up via the Windows 2000 CD, select the Recovery Console and gain access the NTFS partition.
You could then copy the Ntdetect.com file from another system to a floppy and then copy it to the workstation having the problem.
Just some ideas. Good luck to you. | |
