Can anyone tell me the DOS command to attempt to "undelete" something? My colleague mistakenly deleted an entire client file and is about to have a heart attack in the cube next to mine while I'm trying not laugh. I doubt that he'll be able to get it back....he emptied his recycle bin and has accessed and saved other documents since then (btw, using Win98).

Just thought I would ask for him in an effort to help and offer comfort before he tries to jump from our 1st floor office window!

Thanks!!!

If the sector that the file is not been wrote over you should be able to recover it. The dos command would be "undelete".I don't think you should use a dos command to do it with.Especially if running FAT32.I found this doing a quick search on the net.

Maybe this will do it for you.

There are other recovery programs available as well. I think he's gonna have to bite the bullet and install a recovery utility... hopefully that installation won't overwrite the file he's trying to recover!

DOC command will not do the job. If u don't have any recovery uility right now. Forget it. The more you access the HD into different sector, the higher chance is will disapper faster.

Next time for important file: STOP and go to the HD recovery specialist. (only if u don't have recovery program)

Good luck

Yeah. Pretty much what I said this morning. He has to recreate everything for this project now. But like I told him, it's not like Windows doesn't give you multiple opportunities to say "No" about deleting something. I think he actually deleted it without realizing while doing some cleanup and then after he emptied the recycle bin, he pulled the old Homer Simpson...."DOHT!!!"

Thanks all!
