Hey Guys...

Wonder if u could help me out.

I plan to get a job as soon as i get my bachelors. Long time left. But the time has come to declare my major. First i thought of doing Bachelors in Management Information Systems then again i am thinking of Bachelors in General Business Administration. In general business i get to take some courses of M.I.s and some of either one of management, finance, economics, accounting.

Along with the degree i also intend to be certified with the useful certification.

I want a technical job.

My choices are :

Bachelors in M.I.S along with useful certifications or
Bachelors in General Business Administration along with useful certifications.

what do u think would be better and useful in getting a good pay and good chances of advancement in the future job, keeping in mind that i have around 18 months for my graduation.

Thanx...
Nicole

An MIS degree will probably make it easier to get a technical position right out of college, but a Bus Admin degree will mean more further down your career path, especially if you hope to move up the management ladder. (In which case, consider grad school at some future point.)

I know it seems like a big deal right now, but this is not a very crucial decision. Either degree is a pretty good choice, and employers are usually not too terribly picky about what your actual degree title is.

If it were me, I'd be most concerned about my job hunting prospects immediately upon graduating. I would go for the MIS degree, but spend all of my elective credits in finance and economic classes.

I agree with Nicole. However, I have a B.S. in Business Management and a few certifications. I find that I use much of what I learned in the Bus. Mgmt. path, specifically in people interaction. This has definitely helped me as I've climbed the technical ladder. It appears that "people skills" is the area most people complain about when they complain about an I.T. professional. My opinion, for whatever it's worth.
