Hi,

please, is it possible to install windows2000 on its self with out loosing your already installed files?
I want to reinstall windows2k on top of its self cos the windows program can't boot, and i have no ERD nor anyway of correcting thias problem. I just want to reinstall windows2k without loosing my installed files.
If its possible, pls let me know.

have you tried booting from the CD and doing a REPAIR?

i think i tried it once on a machine that was pretty well hosed and it didn't work.. but maybe it will work for you...

What do you mean by installed files? If you're talking about program installed files...no luck! You're going to have to reinstall all programs after the windows installation. If you're talking about data files there that you saved, everything should be okay as long as you haven't been saving all of your files in WINNT (Windows installation directory). WINNT is going to get rewritten when you install Windows (Note: you can change the installation directory to something else if need be). Any other data on the drive will be okay, unless you choose to delete the partition in the text mode of the setup. If you do this, you'll end up having to format your drive, thus killing everything. Just be dsure to install Windows on your current partition. Good Luck.
