lburns,

I take it the manufacturer's name isn't printed on the motherboard....Go here to Wim's BIOS Page There is plenty of info to help you decipher who made your board from the BIOS strings.

Good Luck!

ok...this is what I found out concerning my motherboard, and I would like for someone to help me decipher what it all means and pointing me to the motherboard manufacture. Ok...my chipset (i guess that's what it will be called at this point) and I found two different ones.. is 2A6LI Via MVP4 686A (modem on chip; sound on chip) then I found this one: 686LJ Via 694X/686A (Apollo Pro 133 A) Award Bios V 6.00.
Now what I am wanting to know..out of all these letters and numbers, how do I determine who the manufacture is. I found this information on the page that was referred earlier the BIOS page and the infomation I got on my motherboard is Viatech MVP4 686A...all this without opening the compaq case.
any help will be appreciated..

Since you are dealing with Compaq here, I don't think it will get any more specific than that. Why are you trying to find more info on the board? To see the max amount of RAM it will take?
