| Hello everyone, I have a concern about the It Industry. I'm currently a Field Service Technician for a very large company. I have 2 years of solid experience under my belt plus A+ and N+ certification. As a tech I service over 90 assigned offices in my area. We deal with a wide variety of network problems pc problems, etc. I would like to know what direction or certification would you go after next in terms of moving up the certification chart. I learned a lot by taking the Network+ test but with the jobs I see on the Net you pretty much have to have CCNA plus Mcse to really get in the door as a entry level help desk position. My company pays for all certifications so that is not a problem. please respond!!!!! | |

| Well, it kind of depends on the field that you are interested in. For example, the CCNA is a hardware exams, as are most of Cisco's exams. Microsoft focuses on networking software. From what you have just described, it sounds like the MCSE might be more useful to you, but they are designed to test different skills. Cisco's exams have a reputation for their difficulty (VERY much deserved, I can assure you!), but they do not make workstation software, and focus on routers, Switches, WAN, etc, whereas MS is more into the LAN-type networking software. |
