Author Outlook Express Autoreply

2001-01-04, 9:00 pm

We just switched over from a cable modem to a T1 at work. At the same time I'm moving everybody over to email on the company's domain. I tried setting up a rule in Outlook Express 5 to autoreply to all incoming emails on the old addresses with a message informing the sender of the address changes. Unfortunately, our old ISP has the email accounts setup so that emails can only be recieved, not sent when not on their network. Everytime Outlook Express autoreplies, it tries to send out the reply using the email address that the origonal message was sent to. Is there a way to specify which account I want all the replies to be sent out through?

The T1's blazing

If you are using Outlook Express, especially on a network that may not be using Exchange Server to handle mail, your options will be very, VERY limited.

Try this if you already haven't, open Outlook Express and go to Tools\Accounts\Add and select Mail. This will start a wizard for you to set up another e-mail account for the user. Remember, you also have to define a default mail account as well. When you send an e-mail, the From line will now show a drop down box to select the account you want to use. I can check my e-mail, my wife's, Hotmail account, and Yahoo account at one time and send an e-mail from any one.

Also check into setting up Identities (File/Identities).

Good Luck:-)

Thanks for the info. I've already set the new account to default, but replies to the old account still default to being sent out on the old address. Haven't looked into identities yet, but I found out today that the old accounts will be canceled Tuesday so I'll forget about the autoreply. My next projet is setting up a VPN, should be a lot of fun.
