| Hello everybody,
my question is that how can i establish LAN in b/w distance of 1235feet in two departements.in which i have to provide internet to two departements.kindly send software and hardware devices used in feasibility report form
THANKS

| If the distance is 1235 feet, then you are talking fiber or two wireless bridges. You could place a 2-port bridge between several 300 ft Cat 5 cables, if fiber wasn't a possibility. | |

| hi
i don't want to setup fiber or wireless medium. i want to establish cheap network.
so, answer accoridngly
thanks | |

your locations exceed the limitation of any cheap network.
Maybe you can try VPN.

| hi,
ok take distance as 1200feet.but we don't have much resources.can i use co_axial cable with LAN.please reply immediately.
THANKS | |

| 10Base5 is also called Standard Ethernet or ThickNet. Here '10' means 10Mbps transmission rate and '5' means that it has a limitation of 500 meters (1640 feet) per segment without using the repeater. 10Base5 uses a thick coaxial cable as the communication media.
First, you need to install two terminators (50-ohm resistance) at the each end of the coaxial cable. To connect a computer or network device to the coaxial cable of the network, you need to follow this procedure:
Connect the network card or network device with AUI interface (A 15-pin socket like the RS-232 port) to a transceiver
Clap the piercing tap (or vampire tap) to make the physical connection to the core off the ThickNet coaxial cable.
ThickNet also has a 10Mbps-speed limitation, however, because ThickNet supports a longer distance than 10BaseT and 10Base2, it is sometimes used as the backbone to connect several smaller thinnet-based networks

| hi
thanks for reply, please tell me which software to use would you tell all this in feasibility report form. i don't know the abc of networking. i will be very thankful if you teach me. tell me the time at which you are on the net and your nick so that i can chat with you on this topic
THANKS

| Tyr this site, you can learn some basics from there.
http://www.ftq.com/ne/index.html
Depending on your budget. But I think at least you need two multi-homed servers in between the backbone (in your case, 10Base5).
You can post more information here so we can discuss with you.
Maybe Freak can help you better on this matter. Freak, where are you????????????

| hi
thanks for referring site to me.
our departement(IIT) is ISP and we are going to provide internet to others. task given to me was to connect computer science dept: with our dept: distance from there to our dept: is 1235feet. i can establish wireless LAN but b/c of atmosphere it is not possible in our area.we have to give connectivity report in feasibility form.sorry, i had lie i know bit of networking but not practically or in deep.so you tell me the details of hardware and software. with theoritical analysis.
thanks

| Are you guys kidding. On a proposed network....using 10Base5 for a backbone. Fast Ethernet as a bare minimum, and Fiber isn't expencive anymore. If you built a LAN based on 10base Ethernet, you would be rebuilding it sooner then you would have liked when you have users complaining about how slow everything is.
I'd be looking into Gigabit Ethernet over Fiber for a backbone, not 10Base5. | |

| I was thinking on the same lines Gareth Leung, Did say cheap.
