****MCSE Crackdown****

| They should have seen it coming. Cisco already enforced it and Microsoft will not be the last. Who's next? Comptia? What am I talking about? Microsoft announced a "crack down" on people who supply answers to their certification exams. In other words, BRAINDUMPS. http://www.microsoft.com/trainingan...PageCall=letter http://www.nwfusion.com/newsletters...00/0619nt1.html
Can you blame Microsoft? No. Each test taker signs a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Microsoft is just enforcing rules that were already in place.
A lot of people take certification for granted. Remember when you were in high school and when you didn't study for a test during 3rd period, you always ran to your friend who took the test 2nd period? You might pass the test, but did you actually learn something? If you say that you did, it will eventually show.
Microsoft is protecting the value of their certification. Cisco enfoced it's NDA for years. When a person earns a Cisco certification, it is held in high regard with recruiters. Microsoft wants to be on the same playing field with Cisco. They want respect. They want the MCSE to be more than another piece of paper on the wall.
A lot of people will argue with me stating that certification is needed to get started in the IT industry. NOT! You can get started if have the aptitude and enthusiam to learn. You might not make the "big bucks" starting out, but with experience, a degree or certification or both, and a little time you can make your desired salary level.

| Hopefully this, along with the increased difficulty of the MCSE 2000 will get rid of most of the paper and increase MCSE's value.
Certification definately helps to break into IT, but there's no need to cheat in order to obtain it.
Actually, I don't study for my high school classes or ask about the tests

Finally, hope this can kick off those bad influence on the I.T field and respect those people to really working hard to get their work done.

| I see your point Webmaster as well as Hoooooo's POV. Basically, this whole thing is a deeper root of the "paper MCSE" issue. It goes back to what I've said time and time again, use a certification to enhance your experience.
People are trying to jump into the IT field because it is hot and feel that gaining (notice,I said "gaining" not "earning") a certification within a few months will equal big money. Think about it, a few years ago certification actually meant something. Now everyone is getting certified in something. Microsoft is trying to make certification worthy again so-to-speak. I also have a strong feeling that other vendors will follow suit.
Oh yeah, I do agree 101% with Hooooo in that there needs to be actual "hands-on" testing as well. Believe me, that would weed out a lot of people who take certification test. Look at Cisco. |
