I am trying to get someone onto a local ISP. They are running windows ME and they had AOL 5.0 and 6.0 installed. AOL worked. I uninstalled AOL 5 and 6 and configured the dialup networking for the local ISP. It always disconnects with error 718 (PPP timeout).

I tried unloading and reloading dialup networking, but ME doesn't actually delete files OR reload them from the CD! What is the fricking deal? I deleted rna*.* from windows/system and it still didn't load anything from the cd! Just accepted it.

So I reloaded ME.

Still a problem.

Can anyone help?

Shoot me an email at matthew@ectisp.net or if you prefer, drop me a response at http://ns1.ectisp.net/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000018.html

Thanks!
Matt

Hi Matt. This is a common problem it seems. I had connexion problems with AOL 5.0, but when I upgraded the browser to AOL 6.0, it worked OK. Check the windowupdate site at Microsoft. for patches and see if that helps. When I first installed ME, I had a number of similar problems. The patches at the site helped, and with the new browser and updated drivers, most of the worms seem to have been cleared away. In ME, there is a tool that will take you right to the update site. Try that first and see if it helps. Might want to try the newsgroup at msnews.microsoft.com as they have many smiliar tips. Good luck!
