Personally I pronounce it Fred! But if you do a search on the web there is a audio file of Linus Torvald pronoucing it.

Hey did someone say Fred?

Microsoft Press® Computer and Internet Dictionary says it should be said -- Linux (le'nuks, lin'uks), but what does Microsoft know. They usually have a wav file that pronounces the selected word for you when you click on the button, but not in this case. (Here is something for you conspiracy theorist)Personally, I say it "lie-nux", I'll probably get flamed for that comment. Afterburner time.

Ever watch Charlie Brown TV special? OK so you know the kid with the blanket is Linus. Put that together with UNIX and you've got it.... wrong! Over in Sveden Linus is pronounced with a small i like in linear. I didn't beleave it at first either until I heard Linus Torvalds wav file

Linux with a long "i" sounds much better than Linux with a short "i", so I'm sticking with the former! Sorry Herr Torvalds!
