I am currently trying to pass the core exams for Windows NT, and I should be able to do this by the end of the year. What do you think that I should do, since I will not be able to get my full NT MCSE. I want that certification, since it seems that I will need it in the workplace, since no one is going to migrate to 2000 very soon. I feel stuck, and wish that I could get my hands on Bill Gates to give him a piece of my mind!! Please help if you have any suggestions. Feel free to e-mail me at davisseaborn@hotmail.com.

Q. I have passed the three Windows NT 4.0 exams. What is the advantage of taking the accelerated exam instead of four core Windows 2000 exams?
A. Exam 70-240: Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Accelerated Exam for MCPs Certified on Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 is intended as an incentive and convenience to help individuals who have passed the Windows NT 4.0 exams make the transition to the Windows 2000 track. It is available for a limited time only - until December 31, 2001. You will save time with the accelerated exam, which is shorter than the total time for four core exams. Exam 70-240 includes more items than a traditional exam but fewer than the combined total of the four core Windows 2000 exams, so you will respond to fewer items overall. Opting for exam 70-240 will also give you the convenience of a single testing session.

This should make it clear.

Hi dseaborn:

You mentioned in your post that you wanted to get the NT4 MCSE at this time and not the Windows 2000 MCSE due to the direction of the Industry.

If you think you can finish the four core exams before the end of the year, you could always take NT4 electives that are not retiring.

Here is a list of the exams which are not retiring:

70-019
Designing and Implementing Data Warehouses with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0
---------------------------------------------
70-028
Administering Microsoft SQL Server 7.0
---------------------------------------------
70-029
Designing and Implementing Databases with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0
---------------------------------------------
70-056
Implementing and Supporting Web Sites Using Microsoft Site Server 3.0
---------------------------------------------
70-080
Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 by Using the Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit
---------------------------------------------
70-081
Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
---------------------------------------------
70-085
Implementing and Supporting Microsoft SNA Server 4.0
---------------------------------------------
70-086
Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0
---------------------------------------------
70-088
Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0
---------------------------------------------

Any of these exams can be taken after December 31,2000 when the other NT4 exams retire.

I hope this helps.
