 CIW Program is based on job roles and associated skills.

There are 2 different levels of certification in the CIW program - CIW professional and master CIW certification. To become a CIW professional you must pass at least 2 exams: CIW foundation, which can be substituted by CompTIA's i-net+ exam, and one of the CIW job role exams.

CIW Foundations is a prerequisite for all CIW series. To become Foundations certified, students must pass the CIW Foundations exam (1D0-410) administered by Prometric, Inc. and VUE. CIW accepts score reports from students who have passed the entry-level i-Net+ exam and will award Foundations certification to these individuals.

You can become a Master CIW certified in any of three Master CIW certification tracks - Master CIW Administrator, Master CIW Designer, or Master CIW Enterprise Developer. 

The number of exams required to achieve the Master CIW depends on the certification track. Master CIW designer has the least number of required exams - 2 job role exams and a foundation exam. The Master CIW administrator requires 3 job role exams plus Foundation exam. The CIW Enterprise developer is the most comprehensive program and requires the most number of exams. Not all CIW developer exams are available at this time. Some are scheduled for beta testing in Aug 2000 through Dec 2000.

In order to receive a CIW certificate from Prosoft you need to the CIW professional or master CIW certification. What is means is that if you pass only a job role exam, you will not receive a certificate until you also pass a foundation exam.

All CIW Foundations, CIW Professional series, and Master CIW exams are administered by Prometric, Inc. and VUE.

Attention MCSEs and CNEs! CIW now recognizes your certification and counts them towards the CIW master administrator. This is how it works: CIW will waive 2 out of 4 exam required for the Master administrator certificate. If you have MCSE and I-NET+ certification, then you will only need to pass one exam - 1D0-475 to obtain the CIW master administrator certificate
